Kirby McInerney Partner Randall Fox Speaks on Federal Bar Association Roundtable on Tax Whistleblowing
Partner Randall Fox spoke as a panelist during the Federal Bar Association Qui Tam Section Roundtable on Wednesday, July 27th, 2022. Mr. Fox was joined by Andrea Fischer, Robert Gardner, Michelle Merola, and Richard Neuworth as they discussed Tax Whistleblowing at the Federal and State Level.
As a partner at KM, Mr. Fox focuses on whistleblower and qui tam matters. He represents whistleblowers in state and federal False Claims Act cases and before the IRS, SEC, and CFTC Whistleblower Offices.
He was named the 2021 “Whistleblower Lawyer of the Year” by the Taxpayers Against Fraud Education Fund (“TAFEF”), which is the leading public advocacy group for whistleblowers. In addition, Mr. Fox was the founding Bureau Chief of the New York Attorney General's Taxpayer Protection Bureau, which handles many of the whistleblower cases for New York State, including tax qui tam cases.
Recently, Mr. Fox was the lead counsel representing the whistleblower in the historic $105 million settlement of a tax qui tam case under the New York False Claims Act, which resulted in a $22.05 million whistleblower award (21% of the government's recovery). The case was against a hedge fund billionaire alleged to have evaded New York State and New York City taxes and resulted in the largest income tax recovery under the New York False Claims Act and one of the largest state recoveries in a False Claims Act case.
