Kirby McInerney Partner Randall Fox Gives Presentation to the Multistate Tax Commission about Tax Whistleblowers
On January 12, 2015, partner Randall Fox made a presentation to the Class Action and False Claims Act Work Group of the Multistate Tax Commission, addressing the options states have for drafting laws that give incentives to citizens to report on tax frauds.
The Multistate Tax Commission is composed of state tax regulators who, among other things, draft model tax laws that states may consider adopting. The Commission has charged its Class Action and False Claims Act Work Group with examining whether the Commission should prepare model laws concerning tax whistleblowers.
In his presentation, Mr. Fox outlined the many benefits that tax whistleblowers can add to effective and fair tax enforcement and the different models of tax whistleblower programs. A copy of the slide deck from the presentation is attached here.
